The first time I set foot upon Irish soil was at the port in Dublin city. I was alone and packed full of anticipation, looking for a little charm and a chance to taste some of this sought after Irish heritage most Americans claim to have.
I was welcomed on arrival, quickly mixing with the locals, sharing pints of Guinness and being locked inside late night pubs. Dubliners sing and dance merrily tuned into there very own show. I had finally found others that loved to belt out the lyrics of their favorite tunes after a beer, swaying to the music with those lovely rosey cheeks.
Outside the pub there’s a real atmosphere too, a life waiting to be discovered with so many street vendors, fruit stands, specialty shops on Grafton Street and the wafting smell of fish n chip shops. Musicians stand on the cold, damp, stone walkways, feeding the urge to passerbyers to share any spare change that jingles. Colorful city gardens, branch out against the grey sky enchanting tourists with an air of something so familiar yet so foreign it tugs at them and keeps visitors wanting to return, or maybe that is just Ireland.
Great things to see include; Dublin Castle, Trinity College and the Book of Kells, The Writers Museum, The Guinness Brewery, Temple Bar, Kilmainham Jail and many more.
