On a winter’s day I was traveling north. I stood with my luggage in hand, a skirt wrapped around my waist and my feet resting upon flip flops. I was laughing at the possibility that I would be spending the night in Seoul, South Korea during a blizzard.
Unexpected things happen when you travel the globe, trotting from one continent to the next hoping to touch down if only for a moment between locations. Of course I was on my way home to Seattle from Southeast Asia, the tropics, when I had a very long layover in Seoul. The snow fell all around me as I stood by the large airport lounge window. I was a charmed feature in a snow globe only able to watch the world serenade a soft melody from a distance, this peaceful moment was broken by the unavoidable news, every flight had been cancelled.
As there was no escaping the city tonight my airline took a busload of passengers to a gorgeous five star hotel for an overnight stay. My passport was stamped and I was officially in Seoul. The bustling city is bejeweled with tall dazzling buildings in different shades of light. There is much to be said about the nightlife here, cutting edge technology and the deep love Koreans share for ancient tradition. I was able to enjoy a sampling of this dynamic modern city and definitely want to return to South Korea to feed my new hunger for a little Seoul searching.
