When I think of Italy I think of good food, but of course there is so much more in such a country. Rooted with a deep history, some sweet hints marinated with a modern tangy overtone, and spiced to perfection, Italy is one flavorful country that is hard to resist.
Some years back I took a whirlwind trip to Europe and as it was my first visit I was ready for a taste of something really good. When I arrived in Italy by train my first overnight stay was Torino, also known in English as Turin, home of the 2006 winter Olympics. Turin is in the northwestern portion of Italy on the west bank of the Po River, known mostly as an industrial and business center, I found this city offers much to be discovered.
Thick cobblestone walkways line the avenues that curve around numerous shops where high quality goods in leather and fine knits are abundant. Outdoor markets and corner shop espresso bars are almost always open for business, while clothing stores and banks often close in the early afternoon. It was Turin where I viewed the legendary Shroud. An ancient linen cloth that has been protected for thousands of years, believed to be the very cloth that was laid upon the crucified body of Jesus Christ himself.
